SAPOA Working for You! by: Mike Dunn

The Salisbury Area Property Owners Association has been working for property owners for almost a quarter of a century. Throughout those years there have been many obstacles to overcome (ie; proposals for landlord licensing, increases in property taxes, proposed regulations to address lead paint laws, etc.) and there's no way to know what we'll be faced with in the future. That's why the most important goal I have for this year is to make every effort to strengthen our association through an increase in membership and member involvement.
We have a window of opportunity at this time to take a look at SAPOA and to make a new commitment to our members to keep them informed and involved. One way we plan to keep in touch with our members is by sending the newsletter on a quarterly basis and sending the minutes of our monthly meeting on the months in between. We also plan to finalize the SAPOA webiste this year to make our records more easily available to the general membership. I think if we can encourage you, the general membership, to become more involved and bring your new ideas and viewpoints to the association we will be much better prepared to overcome the obstacles we will be faced with in the future. |
Over the past few years SAPOA's thrust has been to cooperate with the city officials and make a sincere effort to be responsible neighbors in the neighborhoods where we own properties. We currently send at least one member to each and every city, county neighborhood and Maryland Property Owners network meeting to represent the interests of SAPOA and to offer input on ways to improve our community without over-regulating our industry. This year on of our goals is to begin to network in a similar way with local associations such as VOICE, The Builders Association, etc. to discuss issues we have in common and support them in their efforts to assist our local government in becoming more efficient and business friendly. I hope we find that we have many goals that we can accomplish together. I think the benefits will be substantial if we can cooperate with other organizations whenever possible.
Finally, I would like to invite you to our regular monthly meetings and welcome your participation in the association in whatever way your schedule permits. The most important part of this association is the members we serve and I look forward to working with each of you throughout the coming year. Please feel free to send us any articles or publications that may be used in future newsletters, or suggestions and comments to benefit the association. |
